Not everyone wants filler. The lip flip uses a tiny amount of Botox to subtly roll the upper lip outward — creating the appearance of a fuller lip without any added volume.
The Botox lip flip has become one of the most popular injectable treatments for clients who want a subtle lip enhancement without committing to filler. It uses a small amount of neuromodulator — typically 4–6 units — injected into the orbicularis oris muscle just above the upper lip border. When that muscle relaxes slightly, the upper lip rolls outward and upward, revealing more of the lip's natural vermillion and creating the appearance of a fuller, more defined upper lip.
How Is It Different From Lip Filler?
The key difference is that a lip flip adds no volume. It simply changes the position and posture of the upper lip by relaxing the muscle that pulls it inward. For clients who feel their upper lip disappears when they smile, or who want a bit more show of their upper lip at rest, the flip achieves that goal without the swelling, downtime, or commitment of filler.
Lip filler, by contrast, physically adds volume and substance to the lips — it can make them meaningfully larger, change their shape, and add hydrated fullness. The two treatments can also be combined: filler for volume, flip for posture. Many clients find this combination gives them the most flattering result.
Who Is the Lip Flip For?
- Clients who want subtle enhancement without visible volume change
- People whose upper lip disappears when they smile
- Those who want to try an injectable lip treatment before committing to filler
- Clients who already have lip filler but want their upper lip to show more
- People with a naturally thin or flat upper lip
- Anyone who grinds their teeth or wants to soften a strong muscle pull around the mouth
What to Expect
The lip flip takes approximately 10–15 minutes from start to finish. It involves 4–6 small injections just above the upper lip border and into the philtrum columns. Discomfort is minimal. Results begin to appear within 3–5 days as the muscle relaxes, with full effect visible at 10–14 days.
Because a small amount of neuromodulator is used, the lip flip has a shorter duration than a full Botox treatment — typically 6–8 weeks, though some clients see results lasting 10–12 weeks. This makes it an ideal "try before you commit" option for injectable beginners.
Are There Any Considerations?
Because the lip flip relaxes the orbicularis oris — the muscle that purses the lips — there can be temporary mild changes in how you use a straw, pronounce certain letters (particularly B, M, and P sounds), or whistle. These effects are temporary and resolve as the neuromodulator wears off. Your injector will discuss all considerations at your consultation.
The Lip Flip treatment fee is $100. Suitability, product selection, and dosing are determined following an individualized assessment. Call 306.535.7711 or book online.
